A Day at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2012

The Chelsea Flower Show opened to the public today and we were invited to attend by Flemings Nursery from Australia who have created one of the large show gardens. Flemings have become well known at Chelsea over the last few years, often creating exotic styled gardens with an Australian twist.

As Chelsea is such a big event and so many fantastic gardens and displays to check out we had a full day there. The highlight being allowed to look round the Flemings garden and meeting the designer Jason Hodges - which was a lovely experience as the public are not allowed into the gardens themselves. We were able to look at the details, whilst the public was kept behind the ropes, it was like being in a shop window! We loved this garden, although the judges didn't award it the coveted Gold Medal, instead awarding the garden a Silver Gilt.

We will share more in depth photos from the day in subsequent posts but here's a few pictures from the Chelsea Flower Show.

Chelsea was busy but still plenty of space to look at all the designs.

  1. Should I be asking for your autograph, now you are 'invited' by companies to certain events!
Really jealous, I must do Chelsea again.

  4. Great place. Lot of work to setup those gardens. The sculptures turned out fantastic also.

  5. Hi Cher, The gardens take about 3 weeks to set up prior to the show, which just shows how much effort goes into creating Chelsea.

We loved the big sculptures, sadly they are a little (well maybe more than a little) out of our price range. However they would give a real wow factor to anyone who did choose to buy them.

  6. I expect I should be looking at the flowers - but I love the horse. And I don't think I really like the Thailand display, a bit too over the top for me - but, what a laugh (which is good - I hope it was sort of intended). I'd rush to see it if I were there.

  7. Esther, there were so many wonderful sculptures, once we have sorted out our photos we can share some more (this was just a quick teaser after we got home last night).

The Thailand display was so over the top and dominated the whole area. Incredible attention to detail with lots of people building it and placing all the flowers, all 80,000 of them! - flowers not people :)

  8. Hey guys - pity I didn't know you were there - would have loved to check out some of the gardens with you and exchange opinions. The World Vision Garden was simple and striking but what a pity the background was so low and the heads of the ferns tall. It was impossible to get a picture of the garden without the side of the Great Pavilion behind which is not the most inspiring background!

  9. Hi Ian, we must try and co-ordinate next year! were you judging?

The World Vision in some way was let down by its location, if it had a backdrop of green it would have looked a lot better.

  10. You were invited?! Gosh, you must be very important people. I liked the planting in the Telegraph garden and Arne Maynards Laurent Perrier Garden. But I do have mixed feelings about Chelsea and the amount of money spent, the hype and unnatural way plants are grown for it. Anbd dare I say it, I don't like Titch much either...
